We aim to raise our pupils’ awareness of the many educational, vocational and training opportunities available to them, whilst providing the guidance and support to help them realise their full potential.
Most of our Sixth Form proceed to Higher Education, and we begin preparing pupils for this move midway through Year 12. We aim to help our pupils make informed and assured decisions through an extensive programme of seminars, conventions, organised trips and individual consultations. Well-informed pupils are likely to make appropriate choices, which will ensure successful outcomes.
With over 50,000 courses to choose from, at nearly 300 UK higher education institutions, the university application process can appear complex in the first instance. Our tutors are well placed to provide an excellent level of guidance and support in collaboration with our UCAS Advisor. We pride ourselves on the highly personalised level of support that we provide for each pupil.
We help each pupil to realise his/her educational and professional goals. The majority of our pupils do proceed to undergraduate degree courses, but each year, some elect to pursue courses at drama/art colleges, music conservatoires and degree apprenticeships. We work collaboratively with parents to ensure that pupils feel supported and comfortable with the decisions, which ultimately, only they can make. It is not necessarily the case that university is the most appropriate option for all pupils and some pupils choose to pursue more vocationally orientated qualifications or apprenticeships.
Pupils are supported throughout the UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service) process, using the Unifrog (destinations) platform and have the option of undergoing mock interviews to increase their confidence. Guidance is always available, and pupils are welcome to consult our UCAS Advisor.
Pupils applying to Oxford and Cambridge or for Medicine, Vet and Dentistry can also opt for further training involving supplementary lessons, reading and interview preparation.
An increasing number of pupils are electing to apply to universities abroad. We liaise with external agencies to ensure that these pupils receive the very highest level of support.
