In the Physical Education lessons we aim to provide an enjoyable, satisfying, varied programme of activities where all pupils are able to develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively, both as individuals and also in teams.
A structured and developmental Physical Education scheme allows for progression of skills, different levels of challenge and a sense of achievement.
Development of confidence, tolerance, appreciation of own/others strengths and weaknesses are an important part of the learning process.
An appreciation of the place of sport in a healthy lifestyle, both in a social and competitive context, is also encouraged.
An awareness of rules, safety issues, the conventions of fair play, sporting behaviour and responsibilities as both a spectator and a player are instilled.

Approach
At the Prep School all year groups enjoy a double lesson of PE every week. In the lower part of the school the focus is very much on the development of fundamental movement skills and coordination. Swimming is a regular part of the curriculum to ensure that all the children initially obtain essential levels of water safety but also to help produce and develop our competitive swimmers. The Summer term is dedicated to athletics with all the children building their skills and fitness towards participation in sports day, a major event in the Prep School calendar.
In Years 7 and 8 the PE curriculum becomes broader to offer opportunities to develop skills and fitness to compliment and build on our games programme. All children have sessions in the school’s performance gym with our specialist strength and conditioning coach as well as adding specialist sessions in tennis, badminton, squash and street dance.
