Cricket is the main sport for Boys and Girls in the Prep school in the summer term. The game is initially learned through the Kwik cricket format encouraging all players to develop batting, bowling, and fielding skills. As their skills develop, coaching builds towards pairs and T20 match formats with most players moving into the hard ball game in Year 5 or 6. Players are offered coaching throughout the year during activities sessions led by the school’s Director of Cricket, Grant Morgan and other cricket coaching staff.
Fixtures are played against local schools including Norwich School, Wisbech Grammar, Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall, Langley School, RHS Holbrook and Kings Ely. Promising players are nominated for selection into the Norfolk County Youth sides with a substantial number being successful at this level.
The school benefits from having two senior and four junior squares on site and we are grateful to a committed team of ground staff who keep our fine facilities in pristine condition. We make use of the extensive grounds at both the Prep and Senior school sites to ensure that matches can be played on pitches appropriate to the level of the players.
Both locally and internationally, the way in which Gresham’s Prep School has conducted itself on the cricket field over the years has made us many friends. Whatever the result, the spirit in which the game should be played has been upheld and as a result, the game has contributed to both the sporting and personal development of generations of our pupils.
